73 Hourly The Bookkeeper performs any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records in a high volume environment.
Verifies the accuracy of figures, calculations and postings pertaining to business transactions.
Responsible for performing highly responsible and confidential accounting duties involving the collection of monies from probation fees, restitution, attorney fees, state surcharges and fines, program payments and UA fees.
Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs duties in accordance with Departmental Financial Procedures and Cashier Policies, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Community Justice Assistance Division and the McLennan County Auditor’s Office, and applicable accounting laws and regulations.
Updates all financial records and entries on a current and timely basis.
Enters new probation cases, modifications, and amended orders in the computerized case management system on a timely basis.
Enters accounting reversals and program reassignment fees.
Maintains the check register processing and security of the checks.
Maintains voided checks in accordance with established guidelines.
Generates monthly computer reports.
Generates checks monthly Computes, prepares statements and checks mailed to victims and other local and State agencies.
Compiles reports and check registers for the monthly report.
Generates and distributes monthly restitution and department checks.
Generates reports to Crime Stoppers, Monthly Treasurer Report and Quarterly Sex Offender Fees.
Provides releasable financial information to victims to verify payments.
Researches and updates address information for returned restitution and operating checks.
Process checks for the escheating process.
Provides releasable financial information to attorneys, county and district clerk’s offices, probation officers and probationers.
Testifies in court regarding financial offender status.
Assists as a back-up cashier when needed.
Daily cash deposit verification when not performing cashier duties.
Performs as a notary for documents.
Performs other job related tasks as delegated by the Accounting/Finance Supervisor, Deputy Director and/or Director.
Performs tasks according to the Department, Cashier and Bookkeeper Policy and Procedure Manual, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Community Justice Assistance Division and the McLennan County Auditor’s office Regular attendance and timeliness are required EDUCATION: Required: High school diploma and/or GED Preferred: Associate's degree in Financial Management, Business Management, Business Administration or Accounting conferred by an institution of higher education, accredited by an accredited organization recognized by the Texas Education Coordinating Board One year of relevant full-time experience may be substituted for each year of preferred education.
SKILLS ~ EXPERIENCE: Required: One-year data entry experience in financial, bookkeeping, accounting, or related field Must be twenty-one (21) years of age on/or before date of hire Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License Must have reliable transportation Must provide proof of current liability insurance Must have basic knowledge of accounting procedures Ability to pay close attention to detail due to accountability associated with money collected from probationers Ability to follow department, financial, cashier and bookkeeping policies and procedures Effective communication skills Good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills Ability to cooperate and collaborate with others of diverse backgrounds, cultures, or interests Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

), lifting of case files, bending, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, climbing stairs, speaking, and hearing.
Additionally, this position requires significant computer data entry, ability to manage stress in meeting deadlines, adapting to change, and other physical efforts as required.
HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Work schedule varies between the hours of 7 a.
m.
to 6 p.
m.
Monday through Thursday based on the needs of the facility and Fridays 8 a.
m.
to 5 p.
m.
