com/871/CIVIL-SERVICE LATERAL PAY: The starting pay for lateral entry officers with prior law enforcement experience of at least two ( 2) years shall be placed at the step in the police pay schedule commensurate with their qualified complete years of experience up to, but not exceeding, the rate of pay specified in the City' s top step of the police officer step pay plan.
RECRUIT: Police recruits will receive academic training in the fundamentals of law enforcement and is assigned to various department operations until entry into the law enforcement academy.
Entire responsibility of individual in this job category is to successfully complete the law enforcement academy in order to become a certified Police Officer.

00% - Under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant, enforces Federal, State, and City laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, and codes by performing various law enforcement tasks that support law enforcement and crime prevention activities.
Performs investigative work and other special assignments; performs various technical and administrative tasks supporting the Hewitt Police Department.
Assignments within this rank include Patrol officer, Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, K-9 Officer, and Criminal Investigations.
Maintains a high visibility in the community to deter and prevent criminal activity and educating the public in ways to protect themselves from criminal activity and/or prevent accidents and injuries.
Patrol/Criminal Investigation Assignment: Conducts routine patrol of assigned City areas to assist in crime prevention efforts, reports and responds to suspicious circumstances, traffic violations, and hazards to life or property.
Responds to calls for service, including investigating civil and criminal activity, citizen complaints, traffic accidents, and domestic violence issues.
Mediates and negotiates conflicts and disagreements within the community.
Arrests, charges, and books violators of laws or individuals with outstanding warrants for their arrest.
Presents testimony and evidence in municipal and county courts on traffic, civil, or criminal cases.
Assists with Police Department and City-sponsored events, including traffic and crowd control.
Advocates public awareness for crime prevention, neighborhood watch, and other citizen programs.
Promotes activities and special events in the community that relate to crime prevention and positive department-community relations.
Promotes crime prevention: organizes neighborhood watch groups, Citizen Police Academy, etc.
Completes reports, citations, documentation, and case files promptly.
Gathers and information in criminal investigations by interviewing & obtaining statements of victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informers.

Prepares written reports as required by specific areas of assignment.
Inform crime victims of prosecution procedures and discuss investigation procedures.
Checks condition and status of assigned equipment; secures all equipment before leaving it unattended.
Stay current regarding laws, technical developments, legal procedures, and relevant court rulings.
Assist with background investigations and interviews.
Provide on-the-job training for new officers.
Travels to patrol assigned areas, respond to calls for service and attend meetings, conferences, and frequent training.

Promotes activities and special community events related to crime prevention among juveniles.
Promotes juvenile crime prevention programs and anti-drug awareness.
Conducts educational presentations regarding juvenile crime prevention and drug use to juveniles, parents, and school administrators.

The physical ability rowing test is designed to determine the overall fitness level of an applicant.
All applicants must pass the physical ability test on the Concept2 Rower at 50% based on standardized age and gender norms.
The applicant"s target time will be set according to their age, gender, and weight on the day of the exam.
Applicants not passing the physical ability rowing test on the Concept2 Rower will not be allowed to continue through the hiring process.
Applicants will be allowed to reapply during the next scheduled examination.
The physical ability rowing test consists of rowing 2000 meters on a Concept2 Rower with the damper set at level "5".
Applicants cannot put their feet on the ground until they are finished.

Applicants will be encouraged to prepare for the exam by training on the Concept2 Rower which is available at local gyms & fitness facilities.

Subject to excessive audio/visual discrimination and perception when making professional observations, communicating with others, reading and writing and operating assigned equipment.
May be subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions, hazardous driving conditions, hostile environments, hazardous chemicals and fumes, body fluids, infectious diseases, air and water borne pathogens.
Must be able to restrain hostile and/or combative individuals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, physical, criminal background check, fingerprinting check, and MVR check.
