Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial duties to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of assigned rooms, buildings, and related County facilities.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines
Cleans all assigned areas, such as offices, meeting rooms, hallways, stair wells, entrances,and elevators, including, but not limited to, dusting, polishing furniture, walls, doors, benches and woodwork, cleaning floor mats, washing blinds, windows and window sills
Cleans and disinfects assigned bathrooms, including, but not limited to, disinfecting and cleaning urinals, toilets and sinks, checking and refilling paper products and soap dispensers, washing walls and mirrors, sweeping and mopping floors and emptying trash cans
Empties trash cans daily, including carrying trash to pick-up site, inserting clean liners and periodically cleaning trash cans as needed
Keeps janitor's room neat and orderly, and reports supply orders to Maintenance Director
Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor stripper, cleaning, buffer and polisher, carpet shampooer, scrubbers, high-pressure sprayer, manual and power sweepers
Regular attendance and timeliness are required
EDUCATION:
Required:
High School Diploma or GED; in lieu of degree a minimum 4 years’ experience in related field
SKILLS ~ EXPERIENCE:
Required:
Current and valid Driver’s license, and a good driving record
Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of basic janitorial and sanitation requirements for assigned areas of responsibility
Ability to operate motorized vehicles and power equipment, vacuums, floor polishers, mobile radio and cell phones, ladders and step stools
Knowledge of chemical reactions of common cleaning materials when mixed with others
Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions, work orders and product application directions, such as cleaning solutions
Must be a self-starter and able to accomplish expected tasks under minimal supervision
Excellent organizational and time management skills, especially the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees
Preferred:
6 months of work experience in custodial

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Works mostly indoor, but offices may sometimes be unusually warm.
Some outdoor work, or walking from one facility to another.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS: This position works 8:00 a.

to 1:30 p.

, Monday to Friday but may be required to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the facility.
