The Office of Technology Commercialization and Industry Engagement is looking for a Licensing and Patent Associate.
The Licensing and Patent Associate, under direction, oversees an assigned, moderate volume portfolio of intellectual property that has been created within Baylor University.
This position will help to manage the university’s intellectual property portfolio and bring research into the commercial sector.
This position will evaluate the patentability and commercial potential of technology developed by the university, as well as assist in drafting and negotiating patent-related agreements in support of Baylor University’s technologies.
This position will also provide service to Baylor University faculty as well as evaluate, market, strategize, value, and commercialize technologies developed at the university.
A Bachelor’s Degree along with three years of experience and an active Christian faith are required.
A Master’s Degree and three years of experience is preferred.
All applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What You Will Do
Assist/advise faculty and researchers in the process of technology disclosure and intellectual property matters
Assists with the management of the university’s patent portfolio; reviews patent-related correspondence; instructs patent counsel, as needed, to ensure appropriate patent coverage for university technologies
Review, analyze, and evaluate new disclosures for commercial potential taking into account factors including, but not limited to practical application, stage of development, and intellectual property protection opportunities
Recommend strategies for statutory protection and the best path to market
Conduct market research, projection, and valuation of technologies
Prepare non-confidential summaries of technologies for use in marketing, where appropriate
Contact potential licensees and explain possible utilities and value of new innovations to elicit their interest and feedback
Ability to comply with University policies
Maintain regular and punctual attendance
