Job Summary: In consultation with the RVPO, the Chief Clinical Officer assigns the Travel DON to a facility.
As an interim, the DON is under the supervision of the Administrator.
As interim, the Director of Nursing manages the overall operation of the Nursing Department per company policies, standards of nursing practices, and government regulations to ensure that quality resident care is delivered efficiently.
Responsibilities: Travel to SLP centers in the West Texas Region.
Works with the Administrator, consultants, and facility staff in planning all aspects of nursing services to include interface with other disciplines and departments; establishes priorities and job assignments; monitors department activities, communicates policies, evaluates performance, provides feedback, assists, coach, redirect, and discipline as needed: maintain records, manage budgets and supplies, and function as the Senior Department Head.
Ensure equipment and work areas are clean, safe, and orderly, and any hazardous conditions are addressed; ensure universal precautions and infection control, isolation, fire safety, and sanitation practices and procedures are followed.
Conduct regular rounds and monitor resident activity, assess residents’ physical and psychosocial status, and monitor care activities and documentation to ensure the delivery of nursing care according to the physician orders, care plans, and established standards and facility policies; manage admissions, transfers, and discharge of residents; communicate with residents, family members and management regarding resident status; personally participate in the assessment and delivery of care when needed.
Ensures understanding of, and compliance with, all rules regarding residents’ rights.
Ensures compliance with State, Federal, and company quality assurance standards.
Monitor employee relations, assist with recruitment, maintain high morale, and continually strive to improve staff retention; ensure effective communication, prompt problem resolution, positive supervisory practices, and the maintenance of a positive work environment.
Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained through the development of recruitment sources, and appropriate selection, orientation, training, and staff education.
Develops positive relationships on behalf of the company with Government Regulators, families, the area healthcare community, and the community at large.
Supervises, conducts, and participates in department and facility education activities and staff meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Qualifications: Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State.
Must be able to relate positively to residents and families and work cooperatively with other employees.
Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance and working long and irregular hours, often under pressure conditions.
Must have related experience at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
Must meet all local health regulations, and complete a post-offer health assessment.
Must be capable of performing the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices): Walking, reaching, climbing, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to hear and respond to pages; ability to distinguish smells, tastes, and temperatures, ability to read and write, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with residents, families, personnel, vendors, and consultants; ability to remain calm under stress.
