JOB SUMMARY
The Clinic Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care for youth in our residential care facilities and coordinating services for these residents that are offered through the Medical Clinic operated on the Waco campus.
This position requires strong medical assessment skills and must be able to successfully handle multiple tasks and display flexibility in adapting to changing conditions.
The Clinic Nurse must exhibit the intellectual and emotional maturity required to work with youth who have behavioral issues and difficulty relating to others due to developmental delays, mental health needs and trauma.
This position requires respect and compassionate understanding for the youth in care and the ability to balance the need for nurture and structure in the work with youth.
The Clinic Nurse must have the ability to form and maintain healthy relationships with youth and co-workers, effectively communicate with others, solve problems and regulate their own behavior in all situations.
The Clinic Nurse must maintain a healthy value system, including moral and ethical behavior consistent with the agency's mission and core values.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Complete medical assessment of new residents at admission in compliance with agency policy.
Provide routine nursing care for youth Perform TB skin tests for MCH residents.
Assist in the administering of medication to youth in our care when they come to the clinic.
Assist in the preparation for psychotropic medication reviews, as well as providing support and assistance both during and after medication reviews.
Provide medical triage services for MCH residents and coordinate with medical providers to facilitate and carry out recommended treatment.
Work with child-care staff to ensure the provision of medical and dental care for each resident as ordered by physicians and dentists.
Perform nursing duties in compliance with state and federal laws, OSHA requirements and applicable licensing, contracts, and accreditation standards.
Review and enter immunizations administered into the immunization registry operated by the State of Texas.
Serve as a liaison with medical providers.
Coordinate with the pharmacy and Clinic staff to meet accepted practices and legal requirements for the receipt, tracking and distribution of prescribed medications.
Maintain required documentation of Clinic records for medical, pharmacy and dental services.
Participate in medication audits as delegated and report findings to the Director of Clinic.
Lead training on medical and medication needs as delegated to child-care staff.
Learn and effectively use the Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) model of care.
Manage agency funds, resources and equipment according to agency policy and procedures.
Ensure all facilities and equipment are clean, organized and maintained.
Other clinic assignments as delegated.
WORKING CONDITIONS The Clinic Nurse is considered a professional position and may require more than the normal 40-hour work week.
At times, responsibilities could include working in the evenings and on weekends.
This position requires the ability to serve in an on-call capacity and respond to emergencies after hours.
Most duties are performed on the Waco Campus, but the duties may require travel to the MCH Boys Ranch or to other locations in the Waco area.
An automobile for in and out of town travel is required.
Mileage reimbursement is provided for use of personal vehicles for approved business purposes.
A technology stipend is provided to support the communication requirements of this position.
EDUCATION/ LICENSURE A valid license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse as verified by the Texas Board of Nursing is required.
TRAINING Training hours must be completed in pre-service and annually to comply with licensing and accreditation standards, as well as MCH policy.
The employee's supervisor may require additional training to meet specific job requirements or enhance professional growth.
Completion of training requirements is mandatory for continued employment.
OTHER The Clinic Nurse must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid Texas Driver's License, car insurance, an excellent driving record that meets the standards set forth by the liability insurance company and Methodist Children's Home, no criminal history and acceptable references.
