What We Are Looking For
The Academic Advisor consults directly with students on developing academic plans, providing support through challenges in college, advising on course selection, overseeing assigned responsibilities related to student retention, and providing guidance on academic progress toward degree completion.
The Academic Advisor provides critical support to the Hankamer School of Business student population ensuring students maintain satisfactory academic progress toward degree completion.
The Academic Advisor must also be comfortable in doing presentations to small and large groups of parents and students.
A Bachelor's degree, less than one year of relevant work experience, and a Christian faith are required.
A Master's degree and 2 years of relevant work experience are preferred.
*All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on full-time basis.
What You Will Do Primary Duties Serve as advisor of record for freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and transfer students by developing educational plans, selecting courses, evaluating academic progress, referring to university resources and reviewing BBA options and study abroad.
Serve as a presenter for the daily prospective visits, recruiting events, and summer orientation School Specific Responsibilities and Duties Assist students in developing educational plans, selecting academic courses, discussing academic progress, and documenting advising contacts Serve as a presenter for the daily prospective student visits Provide professional guidance, consultation, and expertise to students Assist with external communications related to department policies and admissions Prepare and update advising materials as needed Help monitor all policies for advising for HSB Assist with HSB Orientation sessions for incoming students and their families as well as new student advising Complete projects as assigned by Director and Dean’s office Participate in weekly meetings with HSB staff Serve on Business School and University committees as needed Represent Baylor University and Hankamer School of Business at state, national, and international conferences related to advising and curriculum management Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission Ability to comply with University policies Maintain regular and punctual attendance Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Understanding of college student development and academic issues; ability to work with external constituents Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, collaborative, and supervisory skills Skilled in organization and coordination of complex projects Ability to work independently Ability to interpret and implement university policies and procedures Commitment to diversity and ability to work with individuals or groups with diverse backgrounds What You Can Expect As part of the Baylor family, eligible employees receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous time off, tuition remission, and outstanding automatic retirement contributions.
