_*Job Summary:*_
The position of Sergeant directly supervises assigned correctional officers.
Responsible for the custody and discipline of inmates/detainees/USMS assigned to the unit in compliance with company policies and procedures and jail standards established by appropriate organizations and contracting agencies.
_*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*_
* Supervise, protect, instruct, train, counsel and evaluate employees
* Responsible for the care, custody and adherence to the rules and regulations of inmates/detainees/USMS assigned to specific housing and working areas
* Supervise and direct searches for contraband and provide security
* Supervise and provide custody and security of inmates/detainees/USMS including observation of inmates/detainees/USMS during activities and assigned to work duty.
* Read, review and properly add information found in inmate/detainees/USMS records which is related to the inmates’/detainees/USMS health and safety and to the security of the facility.
Provide appropriate information to other personnel.
* Supervise the preparation and maintenance of records, forms and reports.
* Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skill, procedures and intervention techniques.
* Maintain accountability of staff, inmates/detainees/USMS and property; adhere to safety practices.
* It is expected that the Sergeant shall also perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by the Warden.

* Continuous periods of operating/driving company vehicles to pick up and transport offenders.
* Remaining awake and alert while on duty.
* Occasional lifting and carrying.
* Ability to occasionally withstand direct or indirect exposure to OC spray.
* Exposure to outdoor elements and temperatures with scheduled breaks.
* Ability to hear and understand verbal communication.
