13 Hourly Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Determines applicants’ eligibility for a variety of social services available and/or provides other social services related to mental health crisis intervention and case management Interviews clients, collects, and completes required documentation and determines eligibility for medical, mental health, and social services assistance based upon service regulations and procedures Conducts assessments of the client’s needs by providing basic counseling and case management services for clients Develops casework/service plans monitors progress by conducting follow-up sessions Coordinates with other social service agencies, organizations, and vendors to provide appropriate services, information to clients Assists the Specialty Court Coordinator with screening process by determining if there is a qualifying medical diagnosis of mental illness; obtains documentation during assessment process (court record history, police reports, rap sheets, and jail health/psychiatric records, mental health warrants) Collaborates with Specialty Court Coordinator to ensure seamless delivery of civil and criminal mental health court services for citizens with a diagnosis of mental illness Serves as an advocate on behalf of the client by making appropriate referrals to other social services, education, and health agencies as needed Plans, organizes, and participates in special needs projects including outreach efforts, public speaking, and special activities to clients and the McLennan County Community Serves as backup Probate Court Coordinator if necessary Regular attendance and timeliness is required EDUCATION: Required: Associate’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or related field,in lieu of an associate’s degree: a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 2 years’ work experience in legal clerical, administrative or legal support in a court or legal environment, or related field plus the years of experience required below SKILLS ~ EXPERIENCE: Required: 3 years of experience in social services related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Ability to exhibit a high level of confidentiality and integrity while handling sensitive matters Strong organizational skills and proven ability to maintain accurate, detailed records Ability to accurately sort, file, and retrieve material using alphabetical, numerical, or chronological systems Keen attention to detail; careful and accurate data entry Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra and statistics including add, subtract, multiply, divide, interest, decimals and percentages Exceptional skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with County employees and officials, judges, attorneys, representatives of outside agencies, and the general public General skill in operating standard office equipment such as personal computers, calculators, and telephones General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, Outlook All Employees o Must be committed to achieving excellence in assigned duties, always in service of the county and community o Must have ability to earn and keep the trust of fellow employees and the community at large o Must be approachable and ready to help fellow employees and the general public ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to work under time pressures to meet deadlines; the employee must frequently change tasks, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and work closely with others as part of a team.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS: Some light lifting, bending, standing, walking (trial presentations/on-scene investigations) and prolonged sitting.
Vision (ability to read police reports, law book, and normal printed material), understandable coherent speech and hearing.
HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Work outside the normal office hours (Monday – Friday, 8 a.
m.
to 5 p.
m.
