PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Under the direction of the Purchasing Manager, this individual will be responsible for inventory management and handling and of testing reagents, consumables and other supplies for the entire laboratory
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs functions that require full knowledge of general aspects of the job.
Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature, but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice.
Sets up and maintains an inventory system and records for reagents, consumables and other laboratory supplies for each functional area/department.
Sets up and maintains a schedule of deliveries, so as to receive and distribute to respective functional area/department or main storage locations.
Dates and rotates stock.
Informs supervisors/managers of back-orders, impending expiration dates, low inventory, and other inventory related issues that will affect operation/production.
Transfers reagents, consumables and supplies from main storage locations and warehouse to functional area/department, so as to maintain a steady supply for daily local usage.
Ensures adequate inventory in operational areas, including Specimen Processing, for daily usage.
Writes up purchase orders and place orders as needed.
Produces receiving and usage statistics and reports as scheduled and as needed.
Maintains and manages the lab coat service.
Contacts are typically with individuals within own department and occasionally with contacts outside own organization.
Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data requiring some explanation or interpretation.
May provide assistance to junior staff with more general support tasks that require a better understanding of functions, as directed by immediate supervisor.
May refer to senior staff for assistance with higher level problems that may arise.
Escalates issues to supervisor for resolution, as deemed necessary.
Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
High School Diploma required
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
1-2 years' experience in receiving and handling supplies and inventory management.
Very good to excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be detail oriented and well organized.
Must be self-starter, fast learner and willing to accept new challenges.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Good PC skills.
