JOB SUMMARY
The Manager Advanced Practice Professionals for Inpatient Medicine, includes overseeing: Hospitalist and NICU.
Clinical and Administrative split, with 90% clinical and 10% administrative duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Directly manages a group of APPs, to include hiring, onboarding, training, development, and performance management, while partnering closely with physician and administrative leadership on all of the above.
Partners with the APP Administrator regarding any pertinent APP related issues.
Provides patient services under the delegation of supervising physician and/or the designated supervising staff physician.
Interviews and examines patients to establish each patient's symptoms and prepares patient database to create or update patient files.
Performs comprehensive examinations and appropriate medical screening procedures and accurately, clearly, and concisely dictates or records complete and accurate information in patient records.
Completes and/or assists in the formulation of diagnostic, therapeutic, and follow-up plans and/or treatment protocols as appropriate.
Interprets laboratory data as appropriate, and orders appropriate laboratory investigations while following established protocols and/or delegation.
Follows-up on patient status and diagnostic tests as appropriate and reports relevant information to supervising physician.
Communicates with patient, supervising physician, and other patient caregivers in a clear and concise manner any information that may influence the patient's care, treatment program or well-being including preparing clinical progress notes and other required documentation in accordance with Baylor Scott & White Health policies.
Promotes appropriate utilization of APPs throughout the region or specialty.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Knowledge of Federal and State of Texas laws and legislation pertaining to medical board and nursing board governance of APPs
Knowledge of Joint Commission mandates regarding APP practice in hospitals and clinics
Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a variety of medical staff and personnel; excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid rules
Requires the analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems, or design relatively complex systems and programs that cross department/division lines
Ability to guide, direct, mentor, train and work collaboratively in a team building environment
Required to obtain and maintain valid credentialing/licensing requirements at all times
Knowledge of computer systems, Electronic Health Records, Databases, Excel, Word
Knowledge of national and state APP issues, preferred active in national and state professional organizations
Knowledge of current system and institutional policies, bylaws, and credentialing requirements preferred
Demonstrated ability for self-direction and initiation required

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION - Masters' or Bachelors plus 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
EXPERIENCE - 3 Years of Experience
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION
Basic Life Support (BLS): Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistants (PA): Must be an Advanced Practice Professional; Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or Nurse Anesthetist.
